Some photos from my trip to the Yukon Territory, 09-19 Feb 2010, for the 2010 YukonQuest Sled Dog Race. For more info visit

I followed the 1000-mile race from its midpoint at Dawson City, through the Checkpoints at Pelly Crossing, Carmacks, and Braeburn, to its finish at Whitehorse. I was also a YukonQuest Volunteer at the Dawson City Checkpoint and Vet Shack, and also at the Whitehorse Gift Shop and Finish Line.
I have more photos than posted here, these are just a select number of the better images.
Photographing this race was very challenging due to the lighting conditions. Teams arrived/departed checkpoints at all hours of day and night. Daylight in Dawson City was only 7 hours per day, with a wide dusk/dawn period. The majority of my low-light images did not turn out well, so most of the photos posted here are daylight images. The remaining challenges were due to the erratic hours (and thus limited sleep!), sometimes unpredictable arrivals, dogs and mushers not sitting still for more than split seconds, the crowd, and the cold weather during the first couple of days. I did not achieve some of the iconic photos I had envisioned, however I think I did okay for my first attempt.
