Pima Air & Space Museum, Tucson, Arizona, 12 May 2010.

During a trip to Phoenix, Arizona for a conference, I got to drive down to Tucson to visit the immense Pima aircraft collection (http://www.pimaair.org/). I spent most of my time roaming among the outdoor aircraft displays. The photos here are just some of the historic aircraft on site—there are many more(!).

The aircraft names are as listed on the Pima website. I used to think I was pretty knowledgable about aircraft types until I visited this place—I could barely name a fraction of them!

If you ever visit Pima, plan to spend an entire day there if you can, half for the indoor displays and half outdoor. Definitely plan on a full day if you also intend to take the bus tour of the nearby AMARG "Aircraft Boneyard" (309th Aerospace Maintenance and Regeneration Group)—I didn't have time during my visit. And bring lots of sunscreen and water!
