Rally of the Tall Pines, Bancroft, ON, 26 Nov 2011.
This was my first time attending a rally race, and I wasn't sure what to expect in terms of viewing and photography.
I left the house stupid early to drive out to backwoods Ontario. On the way, the main road was closed due to an accident, and a local gave me directions to a dirt road to get around it. This 20-km detour through the woods on a twisty logging road was like my own little rally event, and maybe the highlight of the day! Now the truck needs washing again... ;)
Rather than roam around the backroads trying to find a prime viewing area, we simply went to the designated spectator stage and watched from a few points there.
I have to say that these drivers are NUTS! Although, I wasn't feeling very sane either, crouched just a few feet from the side of the road as they roared by (see photo #4!).
There was no opportunity to see the cars catch some big air from where we were, but overall I'm relatively happy with my first photos.
Almost all the photos were shot hand-held at 420 mm with image stabilization on.
