In November 2008 I had the immense privilege of taking the voyage of a lifetime, an expedition to Antarctica!

I sailed aboard the ship Ocean Nova, operated by Quark Expeditions (http://www.quarkexpeditions.com), from the Argentine port of Ushuaia at the southern-most tip of South America. We departed Ushuaia on 21 Nov, crossed the notorious Drake Passage, and arrived at the South Shetland Islands two days later.

We spent the next six days exploring the western coastline of the great Antarctic Peninsula, conducting off-ship excursions in small zodiac boats, and landing on various shores to explore the landscape, experience the wildlife, visit Antarctic stations, and even do some overnight tent camping. We departed the polar continent on 28 Nov and arrived back in Ushuaia on the 1st of December.

Antarctica is truly incredible to experience firsthand. My photos here are my feeble attempt to present this icy continent in all its wonderous glory. Whittled down from over 2500 images, I hope they provide you with some small sense of what it's like to be there in person.

Thanks for visiting! :)
